A few days ago, the Minister of Economy and Trade, Amin Salam, announced that the wheat building at the port of Beirut is in danger of collapsing and could collapse if a strong storm hits. The minister’s words are unmistakable, and they should reflect his great interest in public safety, but the truth is different, or at least it is not limited to that. All the information confirms that the file of demolishing Beirut’s barns has become a target for the system. Why? For two main reasons.

The first reason is direct and traditional in the sense of the system that controls decisions and capabilities in Lebanon. Demolition of the wheat building means a new deal. Rather, it leads to a project to mandate the demolition of the building, and there is, on the other hand, a project to mandate the construction of a new building for the ransom. Who among our officials is more clever in seizing opportunities, especially when they see money and feel a near deal?

The second reason for the regime’s desire to demolish the building, is that its pillars want to destroy the memory of the homeland and the history of the republic. And the building itself is an inseparable part of history. It is a witness from the beautiful time of Lebanon when it still was a developed country and even a pioneer in the economy, finance, thought and politics. That is, when Lebanon was the opposite to the one we are witnessing now.

The wheat building reminds politicians, administrators, and soldiers of the crime of the era, or the Lebanese Hiroshima. Nevertheless, you corrupt clique, no matter what you do, your crimes will remain in the memory of the Lebanese, and the hour of reckoning is closer than you think.
