“Sawt Beirut International” news bulletin for Friday, October 8, 2021

In today’s news bulletin:

  • Administrative corruption at its best in the social security company
  • What is the relationship between the dollar rise and Iranian diesel?
  • Who refuses to activate the role of women in parliament?

Every day Najib Mikati proves that he is not the man suitable for this stage. The stage is delicate, difficult and fateful, and it assumes the presence of a statesman in the Serail who dares to make difficult decisions, not to be content with turning sharp corners. The last example of Mikati’s unconvincing performance is what he announced today from Bkerke after his meeting with Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi. When Mikati was asked about Hezbollah’s threat to Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, he said: The Minister of Justice inquired about the threat and investigations are still ongoing.

Mr. Mikati, we know that Minister Henry Khoury inquired, and that the age of his inquiry is more than two weeks, and we wanted to know from you what did this inquiry lead to? Is it true that investigations are being conducted to find out the truth about the threats of the Hezbollah? And with whom are these investigations conducted? Is it with Mr. Wafiq personally? Of course, we doubt the matter, as no information has been received indicating that there have been investigations conducted with the official of the coordination and liaison unit in Hezbollah! So, the investigations are not real. Will Mikati continue to follow his unconvincing tactic, and for how long. Meanwhile, the dollar once again crossed 19 thousand pounds, and Lebanon is threatened with complete darkness. The two Turkish ships are leaving soon, and the Deir Ammar factory is out of service today, and the Al-Zahrani factory will follow tomorrow.

On the other hand, the coordinator of international aid to Lebanon, Ambassador Pierre Dukan, confirmed that there is no real aid or international assistance to Lebanon before its country regains the minimum level of internal and external confidence.

What two restored trusts are we talking about, in a country whose officials are afraid to acknowledge the threat of a judge, and are reluctant to say a word, in his defense? Do we live in a republic that defends its men, or not?
