“Sawt Beirut International” news bulletin for Wednesday, August 18, 2021

A brief of today’s news bulletin:

  • A strict US warning, Lebanon will be internationally isolated if the government is not formed
  • The fuel dispute escalates between Aoun and Salameh, who will beat the other?
  • Physicians sounded alarm, Saida Turkish hospital problem partially resolved

The expected government is in the midway between formation and non-formation. In principle, talks between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister-designate are in progress and reaching positive results, but this does not mean that all the complications have been resolved.

The President’s team is relaxed and not in hurry as usual, and does not see that the general situation requires swift steps towards forming a government. This is very normal, because the covenant has long ceased to hear the voice of the people, their pain and their suffering.

The Free Patriotic Movement has become accustomed to the process of pressure and obstruction of the country in order to achieve its personal interests, especially the current and future interests of the “son-in-law.”

On the other hand, Najib Mikati is in a hurry, as he realized that every day that passes without forming a government is not in his interest at all, especially that he set a time limit for forming a government, without keeping the process open.

Hence, Mikati has became hostage to three factors: deadlines, the demands of the President of the Republic and his team, and the conditions of the party to which he belongs, specifically the conditions of the Former Prime Ministers’ Club. Sources assert that the existing situation, with its many complications, will not allow Mikati to form a government unless he receives the support of the international and regional countries.

Will this happen in the last few minutes, as Prime Minister Mikati expressed today, or will the expected government be delayed until further notice, and the prime minister-designate will have to submit his last card, which is abandoning a bid to form the government?
