Sawt Beirut International News Bulletin – March 15, 2021

In today’s news bulletin:

  • The black market has destroyed the pound against the dollar, a security chaos ahead?
  • Covid-19 Vaccination, a “slow motion” process, and the Minister of Health bans the private sector from importing vaccines
  • Car agencies are suffering: Sales are at their lowest phase, and the sector’s fate is ambiguous

Believe it or not, one title summarizes the reality of the Lebanese state today, a state that murders its people, a truly criminal state, and killing here has several aspects as well as it has several means. The state is killing its citizens through the crisis, starting with the Lebanese currency that is hitting record lower day by day on the black market, to the crazy prices that are exploding and thus threatening the Lebanese who are at risk of losing their livelihoods. What should the state do with its government, ministries, and all its institutions to control the dollar’s crossing of the 23,000-lira limits? Nothing. The government resigned from its role, mission and responsibility, and when it was in its golden era, not a single useful decision was noticed, so what are we expecting from a caretaker government now?

Another strategy adopted by the state to murder its people, the intended negligence to control the pandemic, a negligence that has been generating disasters till present and is likely to generate greater disasters in the near future. On the first hand, the director of the Rafic Hariri Governmental Hospital, Firas Abyad, affirmed via Twitter today that the upward trend of the pandemic is certain, and that Lebanese people will be exposed to the imminent danger of the coming wave. On the other hand, the Minister of Health is apathetic, only doing a great job when it comes to preventing private companies from importing the vaccine at their expense. How can Hamad Hassan allow himself to take such a decision that will put Lebanese lives at risk ? He is well aware of the slow vaccination process, so why doesn’t he give private companies the right to import the vaccine? Does he head the Ministry of Health or the Ministry of non-health?

On the brink of the misery that Lebanese people are living, the political system is not taking any initiative to make reforms. Same scenarios everyday. ‘No progress’ made on forming a new government, a parliament that does not work except under pressure, a president who is in a state of denial and refuses to accept reality, and an appointed prime minister who is  only concerned about his battles with Gebran Bassil. A system that only thinks of their own advantage, while death is knocking on doors. Thank you, dear killing system. Many thanks to such a corrupt country, headed by criminals.
