From one week to another, questions differ in Lebanon. Last Saturday, after the Parliament convened in UNESCO Palace, the question was, will we form a government or no? Today, the question that arises is will Hariri return back to his homeland.
As for Hariri’s return to the country, expectations indicate that the Prime Minister designate may come back to Beirut in the next 24 hours, because everyone began to complain his absence, even his main ally Nabih Berri, began to criticize his absence in his assemblies. The same applies with the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rai, who holds Hariri responsible for not forming a government, after being previously, dividing responsibility equally between him and MP Gebran Bassil.
Hariri who has been awaited for weeks will probably arrive in the next few hours, but nothing confirms that the government will be formed immediately. Hariri is jammed, and he rather prefer postponing the government formation. He also want to gain time, perhaps this policy will not succeed.
Citizens has begun to hold Hariri responsible for delaying the government formation. It is expected that Hariri will come to Beirut and visit Ain al-Tineh then Baabda with a government formation that is likely to witness opposition by the President of the Republic and his team, so the situation returns to the beginning point, and the PM designate will apologize.
Amid this tempered relationship between Hariri and Aoun, the deterioration of his Arab and international relations, and the contracting economic and social conditions, Hariri’s best solution may be escaping, so will Hariri flee as usual? How he will escape, will he travel abroad or he will apologize?
