Sawt Beirut International’s News Bulletin – Dec. 9th, 2021

A brief of today’s new bulletin:

  • Mikati like Sinbad bounding from one country to another, but did he forget that his government’s problem is internal?
  • Dollar exchange rate surpassed 25,000 LBP, after Central Bank’s decision to raise the exchange rate in Lebanese banks to 8,000 LBP against dollar
  • October 17 revolutionaries pay the cost: We live in a police state rather than in a state of law

We are living in a country which is not connected to the reality. The main reason behind this is that our senior officials do not recognize the volume or even severity of the crises the country is experiencing! Two examples can be presented in one day, the first concerns the Prime Minister Najib Mikati, who is apparently following Former Prime Minister Saad Hariri’s footprint, as he leaves the country every week bounding to a specific destination, as if these visits and trips in such tough times can resolve the crises!

Today, Mikati visited Cairo and met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. In ordinary days, such a visit is absolutely good for Lebanon, but nowadays, how can the country leverage from such visits? Mikati, who is neither able to call the Council of Ministers to convene nor hold a Cabinet session, what can he say to the Egyptian president? Isn’t it more convenient for him to stay in Lebanon, trying to solve his government’s problem, instead of traveling everywhere?

Another example of the country’s lack of contact with reality is what the President of the Republic said in front of his visitors today. President Michel Aoun stressed that fighting corruption will not stop, and that the Lebanese will have their say against corruption in the upcoming Parliamentary Elections! Is the president really serious about what he is sayings? Doesn’t he realize that, in the eyes of the Lebanese, his son-in-law is the one of the most corrupted people? Did he forget that when the revolution broke out on October 17, 2019 protesters focused on his son-in-law and his party and their performance in power? This disconnection from reality and this denial to the facts is absolutely weird.

While the Prime Minister is touring the world, and the President of the Republic is looking into fighting corruption, the dollar has surpassed 25,000 LBP!

So, gentlemen, will you wake up from your dreams and get rid of your illusions before the final and great collapse approach?
