Sawt Beirut International’s News Bulletin – Jan. 13, 2021

A brief of today’s news bulletin:

  • Tomorrow the country will experience the lockdown and on Friday, the Parliament will legalize the import of vaccines

The beginning of the comprehensive lockdown coincides with the first day of quarantine for the Minister of Public Health. This is an additional sign that the situation is not good and that the outbreak of the coronavirus has reached an advanced stage, so that it is no longer certain that lockdown will reduce the number of Covid-19 infections.  The last three days preceding the lockdown witnessed unprecedented crowding, whether in front of banks, pharmacies, or supermarkets.

The reason behind the Minister of Health’s quarantine is that three members of his office were tested positive by Covid-19. As for the real race and challenge, it is in providing the legal mechanism for importing vaccines, and this is what the legislative authority has noticed. The legislative step is expected to take place in the coming days through a plenary session of the Parliament to study a draft law aimed at regulating the emerging use of medical products to combat the Corona pandemic.

  • These are the data on the delay in the port explosion investigations.
  • Surprising developments for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in the case of Martyr Prime Minister Rafic Hariri.
