Lebanese people rise up, vote on Sunday!

What was predicted occurred. What we demanded more than two months ago was met. Under the direction of the Grand Mufti of the Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, the General Directorate of Islamic Endowments issued a circular to the imams and preachers of mosques in Lebanon calling on the Lebanese, in the next Friday sermon, to participate broadly and intensively in the exercise of their national duty, and to urge citizens to flock to the polls and enjoy their right to vote!

It is a chance for real change. The declaration is clear and unequivocal, and it responds to all that has been stated about the Sunni sect’s commitment to being a suicidal alternative represented by a boycott.

When the highest spiritual authority of the Sunnis calls for elections and the majority of Sunni leaders agree to participate in the elections, it means that the Future Movement and its leader made a grave error in believing that fleeing and boycotting the elections was the solution to the Lebanese crisis.

Confrontation is required by circumstances and events. Standing up to Hezbollah cannot be accomplished by turning over control of Beirut, Tripoli, Saida, and other Sunni-majority districts, or even all Lebanese regions apart from their sectarian identity.

What applies to leaders also applies to voters, who are encouraged to utilize their democratic rights in order to avoid a shift in Lebanon’s identity. Your nation needs you, show up at the elections, fulfill your duty!
