The Middle East is clearly on the verge of tremendous turmoil. At the same time, the region’s economics, ecology, politics, and international connections are all changing.
Although the energy transition is the most visible component, a climate shift looks to be in the works as well.
These two forces interact to establish a labor transition, and all three will interact with demography and global communication technology to produce substantial societal shifts.
The anticipated implications provide promise for stronger and more robust systems, but they also threaten to worsen “food insecurity,” ruin livelihoods, and drive tens of millions of people to move inside and outside the Middle East.
The Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) is working collaboratively with leaders and experts from the region, as well as leading thinkers from around the world, to address some of the most important challenges in the Middle East under a major new initiative.
The first phase of this project focuses on water safety and civil society potential in the MENA region.
It is worth noting that the Middle East Transformation Initiative is supported and funded by Bahaa Rafik Hariri, who in turn pointed out the importance of think tanks and opinion institutions, considering that “the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), with its very extensive experience in this field and others, is the appropriate institution that ensures proposals and solutions.
