Abiad says, “Amid the alarming rise in Covid-19 infections, the choices are never easy”

The Minister of Public Health Firas Abiad wrote on his Twitter page: “Corona’s Committee is meeting today in the Grand Serail amid alarming figures of Covid-19 infection, and the emergence of a new variant that is spreading globally.”

He added: “Is it possible to reconcile the required safety measures, and avoid the significant negative effects of those measures on the economic and educational sectors? The choices will never be easy.”

It is noteworthy that Abiad has indicated earlier that “the percentage of vaccinated people in Lebanon is at 40%, and still the majority vulnerable to the virus. This come amid severe weather conditions, and the schools.”

He added that “the vaccination campaign in schools was not as rapid as desired, and there were obstacles especially in public schools.” He added that tomorrow he will have a meeting with the Minister of Education to take decisive decisions.”

“I am aware of my responsibilities, and it is still too early to judge the government’s achievements,” Abiad said.

He added that “there is a proposal that we will discuss with the Ministry of Education about extending the winter vacation and stressing preventive measures in schools that do not adhere to these measures, and about vaccinating teachers who refused to receive the vaccine.”
