Abyad: We are trying to speed up process of securing cancer medicines

Minister of Public Health Firas Abyad affirmed that “a cancer patient cannot wait for solutions. We are trying with all parties to speed up the process of securing medicines for them. We are in a deep economic crisis, and the budget of the Ministry of Health is estimated at about 450 million dollars, while its proposed budget is less than 100 million dollars.”

He pointed out via a radio interview that “our health situation is a reflection of our political situation,” noting that “we need to raise the ministry’s budget and we need to rationalize medicine.”

Earlier, head of the “Barbara Nassar” Association for Cancer Patients, Hani Nassra said that “the legalization of these companies began, but the support for cancer drugs continued with the development of a new protocol based on the Ministry of Health determining the types and numbers of imported drugs, provided that they obtain prior approval from the Banque du Liban.”
