Head of the Change Movement, Elie Mahfoud, announced that, “we are preparing, Within hours, and with a team of lawyers, to sue the journalist Ibrahim Al-Amin from Al-Akhbar newspaper for insulting the Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, as well as for insulting the mother church, the Maronite Church. “.
For its part, the executive body of the Maronite General Council, headed by Eng. Michel Matta, denounced, in a statement, “what was issued by journalist Ibrahim al-Amin in terms of speeches against the Maronite Church, the shrine of Bkerke and its history.”
The council considered it as a “dangerous and entrapped speech, if it expands, itwould ignite the embers of sectarian confrontation and deepen the differences and divisions that Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, at every merit, and in the face of every crisis, offers initiatives to calm things down.”
It stressed that “the role of Bkerke and the Maronite Church in upholding Lebanon’s status and preserving its privacy is a global message in the service of humanity, and what matters today to Bkerke, is not only that Lebanon regain its identity and truth, but that efforts come together to save its people and its economy, and that its state return to being one, united, and sovereign in its decision.
