Sheikh Ali Al-Khatib, Deputy Head of the Higher Islamic Shiite Council, received UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, at the Council’s headquarters on Thursday.

Discussions reportedly touched on the current general situation in Lebanon after the completion of the parliamentary elections.

Sheikh Al-Khatib also welcomed UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander in Lebanon, Major General Aroldo Lázaro, who paid him an acquaintance visit after assuming his duties in Lebanon.

The pair discussed the current general situation in Lebanon and the region.

Sheikh Al-Khatib welcomed Major General Lázaro, wishing him success in his new duties and stressing the need to intensify cooperation between UNIFIL and the Lebanese army in the face of recurring Israeli violations of Lebanese sovereignty.
