Al-Rahi: There is no sovereignty in Lebanon today, but multiple states

The Maronite Patriarch, Cardinal Mar Bechara Boutros Al-Rahi, renewed his demand to neutralize Lebanon from regional conflicts, “so that this country can restore its role in the region through active and effective neutrality.”

Al-Rahi said in an interview with “ici Beyrouth”: “Being neutral does not mean that you stand aside and do not deal with anything,” adding: “We have a mission that must be exercised and a role in the region that we must play, and this role we achieve through stability, dialogue and openness.”

He saw that “Lebanon’s loss of its identity means its isolation from the whole world.”

Al-Rahi also stressed that “Lebanon is not a state of war, and it must liberate itself from all regional conflicts,” criticizing the violation of sovereignty and the domination of statehood over the concept of the state.

He pointed out that “Lebanon should be a sovereign state, today it is not, as there are mini-states. Therefore, there is no sovereignty in this country, neither at the national, security, nor political levels,” he continued, adding: “There should be only one army in Lebanon.”

And he added: “If Lebanon is attacked by Israel or others, the Lebanese army must defend this land. Even if some parties do not like this speech.”
