American project to invest in renewable energy in Lebanon

The delivery of Egyptian gas to the Deir Ammar plant via the Arab Gas Pipeline, which contributes to securing an increase in production at 460 megawatts, which is equivalent to 4 or 5 hours of electric current, is being highlighted as a potential alternative to enhance energy supply rates. With this initiative, the Treasury saves 130 million dollars a year as a result.

After the completion of the technical, commercial, and contractual procedures, the import mechanism, Lebanon’s approval of the price list, and the payment procedure, as well as the completion of procedures with Jordan and Syria in preparation for the passage of gas through their territories, it is expected that the necessary procedures to supply Lebanon with Egyptian gas will be completed in the coming days.

The U.S. Senior Advisor for Global Energy Security Amos Hochstein informed Minister of Energy Walid Fayyad that the US administration had issued a letter of reassurance to secure the project’s and the parties involved in its protection from the repercussions of the “Caesar Act” sanctions.

Parallel to this, American enthusiasm arose to introduce a new energy project, which resulted in the introduction of the “USAID,” a 29 million dollar project to deliver reliable energy over all Lebanese lands, as IMC Worldwide, a business, was awarded a contract to implement innovative renewable energy projects at a cost-effective level.

Follow-up sources told “Al Markazia” that the project could take up to 6 months to prepare before it is implemented.

In this context, the US Agency aims to increase the supply of electricity generation at the community level, as well as its cost-effectiveness, environmental friendliness, sustainability, and energy supply reliability, while also providing explanations and promoting an enabling environment for renewable energy generation.

Since 2012, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has deployed over 15 green energy solutions to keep homes and businesses lit, reduce fuel consumption by 30%, and reduce pollution for almost one million people. In order to provide power, more than 20 projects entered into force across Lebanon.
