The Head of Kataeb Party Sami Gemayel, considered that the President of the Republic and Hezbollah are overturning against the law, constitution, and the citizens’ interests when facilitating smuggling to Syria.
He added: “The problem is not that Lebanon is besieged, but rather because it is a bankrupt country that is unable to import subsidized fuel, and if it receives the Iranian ships, it will be subject to tough sanctions, which may reach a point that international banks will halt relationship with the state and impose a real blockade on all imports and exports.”
Gemayel said in a television interview that “the role of the state, is to decide solely how to secure electricity. This is the role of the government that should be formed.”
He doubted that the next government will be able to gain the confidence of external parties, because officials are in a state of conflict with the Arab countries and the international community.
Gemayel said: “There are vacant positions in institutions.” He called for re-establishing authority through parliamentary elections or the formation of a transitional government to run the country for a certain period.”
He said: “Hezbollah owns the majority in the Parliament, and therefore the decision and ability to approve whatever it needs.”
Gemayel added: “Let the Lebanese Forces and the Free Patriotic Movement agree to resign from the Parliament, to reproduce the authority, not to agree on media reviews only.”
With regard to the election law, Gemayel called for “pressing the next government to take measures, present a draft law, and study the appropriate mechanism in order to cancel the election of only six deputies, and for the expatriate to vote for 128 deputies.”
