The Minister of Interior in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, confirmed to Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rahi the necessity of holding municipal elections, saying: “We are ready to conduct them administratively, and we are awaiting the securing of funding, which, once available, will solve the human and logistical problems, and God willing, with our determination and the implementation of the law, they will take place.”
The Minister of Interior also pointed out that “the lack of political will to hold municipal elections is the main obstacle.”
Mawlawi also emphasized the “need to elect a president as soon as possible to contribute to building a true state that resembles the Lebanese people,” adding: “Lebanese should take advantage of regional understandings that are in the interest of Lebanon, especially in terms of electing a president.”
It is worth mentioning that Patriarch al-Rahi also received today the Commander of the Army, General Joseph Aoun.
