Baabda sources: “What happened is a failure to the Constitutional Council”

Following the Constitutional Council’s failure to reach a decision over the appeal filed by the “Strong Lebanon” parliamentary bloc against the amendments to the electoral law, sources of the Presidency of the Republic considered that what had happened was a “mistake from the Constitutional Council.”

The same sources confirmed that the “President of the Republic Michel Aoun, did not ask for anything, and there are forces that obstruct the judiciary, the Constitutional Council, the procedural authority, and the forensic audit.”

It is noteworthy that the Constitutional Council had held its seventh and last meeting, headed by Judge Tony Meshleb and attended by members, and resumed deliberations on the appeal decision submitted by the “Free Patriotic Movement”, without reaching a decision because it was not possible to secure a majority of 7 members, so the contested law was considered enforceable.

The report was prepared to notify the President of the Republic, the Speaker of Parliament and the Prime Minister, and to be published in the Official Gazette.
