Berri highlights importance of conforming to depositors’ rights stipulated in Capital Control laws

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri emphasized the need of “any law linked to capital control beginning with the preservation of depositor rights before any further inquiry.”

Berri emphasized that “Lebanese banks stopped paying to depositors, in a session held in the Republican Palace in the presence of the Governor of the Banque du Liban and the President of the Association of Banks during the government of PM Hassan Diab, headed by President Michel Aoun.

It is worth noting that the Chairman of the Administration and Justice Committee, George Adwan, confirmed this stance, stating that “we want a Capital Control law that takes into account the depositor’s rights, and for this law to be feasible, it must come within the framework of a plan issued by the government to see how to return the depositor’s money as soon as possible.”
