Parliament Speaker, Nabih Berri, on Monday received a series of condolences calls over the passing of Head of the Islamic Supreme Shiite Council, Sheikh Abdel Amir Qabalan, notably from former PMs Saad Hariri, Najib Mikati, Fouad Siniora and Tamam Salam.
Speaker Berri also received condolences calls from Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdel Latif Derian, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, former MP Walid Jumblatt, Chair of the Education Parliamentary Committee MP Bahia Hariri, Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Dr. Yasser Alwi, and Kuwaiti Ambassador to Lebanon Abdel Aal al-Qinai.
In the same framework, Berri received cables of condolences from the Secretary-General of the Islamic Dawa Party, former Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, Head of Hamas Movement Political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, Spiritual leader of the Unitarian Druze Muslims community in Syria Sheikh Hikmat al-Hajri, and the Secretary General of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Nayef Hawatmeh.
On the other hand, Berri followed up on the situation of the Lebanese community in Guinea following the military coup that took place there.
For this purpose, Berri received a phone call from the Head of the Lebanese community in Guinea, Ali Saadeh, reassuring him of the stability of the situation in Guinea and the safety of the Lebanese community, their properties and their businesses.
