People exchange Lebanese pound and dollar notes on the black market in Beirut
The exchange rate of the dollar on the black market today ranges between 12,400 Lebanese pounds for purchase and 12,450 Lebanese pounds for per dollar, while it closed yesterday evening at a price ranging between 12,350 and 12,400 per dollar.
The high exchange rate of the dollar and the liquidity crisis, in addition to the months-long political crisis and other crises, are prices paid by citizens who are suffering from the erosion of their purchasing power as a result of widespread unemployment and the loss of more than 80% of its value during this crisis, while monopolies play a major role in the high cost Living, amid warnings of imminent lifting of subsidies.
The high exchange rate of the dollar is accompanied by the rise in food prices, the loss of subsidized materials from the markets and their manipulation, in addition to the deteriorating security conditions, the spread of theft and insecurity in the absence of authority.
