The Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, “On July 29, and based on a prior agreement, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the Middle East and African Countries, Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, called Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati. During the conversation, the Russian side welcomed the decision of the President of the Republic of Lebanon, Michel Aoun, after binding parliamentary consultations with the parliamentary blocs, to assign Najib Mikati to form the Lebanese government, wishing him to expedite the task of forming an important government capable of obtaining the support of the main political and sectarian forces in Lebanon.
Some urgent issues, and the need to develop the historical Russian-Lebanese friendship relations were also discussed, including deepening political dialogue and developing cooperation aimed at alleviating the economic and social problems faced by Lebanese society”.
