Bohsali warns : The rising exchange rate threatens food security

In his statement, the head of the Syndicate of Importers of Foodstuffs, Hani Bohsali, commented on “the continuous rising of the dollar exchange rate in light of the worsening political situation and the impossibility of reaching solutions”, calling on the ” formation of a government that gains the Lebanese’ and the international community’s trust, the agreement with the International Monetary Fund in order to implement financial, economic and social assistance programs in order to reduce the Lebanese people’s misery.”

Bohsali warned that “this will negatively affect prices and further deteriorate citizens’ purchasing power and their living conditions in all its aspects. The fear is to remain in this power vacuum instead of taking the initiative to initiate reforms”.

“We have always underlined the necessity of implementing reforms in order to ensure continuous food security for the Lebanese population. We have also emphasized to stop commodities support and provide financial cards to assist needy families instead. Today, we call on the formation of a governement that is able to save us, because we are going downhill at an ever faster rate”, he added.
