Bread crisis soon?

The Federation of Bakeries and Ovens Syndicates in Lebanon announced, in a statement, that “the bakeries and bakeries sector has been suffering for days from a severe shortage of flour deliveries for the bread industry by mills for many reasons, including the delay in paying the price of wheat imported from the Banque du Liban, and the accumulation of quantities of bran in mill warehouses. This prevents these mills from continuing production.”

The union called on “the concerned officials to work on finding effective solutions very quickly, to prevent a loaf crisis, especially since flour deliveries to bakeries and bakeries hardly cover the daily need for loaf production.”

The union stressed, “The bakeries will work until they run out of flour, which may force them to stop forcibly,” appealing to “those concerned to rectify the matter before it is too late.”
