Consumer Price Index surges 16% in December compared to November

The Central Administration for Statistics (CAS), which is affiliated to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers announced in a statement that the Consumer Price Index in Lebanon for December 2021 recorded an 16.5 percent increase compared to November 2021.

This figure also recorded at the governorate level the following:

  • An increase in Beirut governorate by 10.07 percent
  • An increase in Mount Lebanon governorate by 16.54%
  • An increase in the North Governorate by 17.67%
  • An increase in the Bekaa governorate by 18.63%
  • An increase in the South Governorate by 21.31%
  • An increase in Nabatieh governorate by 14.96%

CAS pointed out that the Consumer Price Index in Lebanon for December 2021 recorded an increase of 224.39 percent compared to December 2020.

Annual inflation

CAS announced that the annual inflation rate, for the year 2021, amounted to 154.8 percent, noting that the annual inflation rates for previous years were as follows:

In 2020: 84.9 percent

In 2019: 2,90 percent

In 2018: 6.07 percent

In 2017: 4.48 percent

In 2016: – 0.82 percent

In 2015: – 3.75 percent

In 2014: 1.9 percent

In 2013: 4.8 percent
