Covid-19 infections, deaths again on the rise

The Ministry of Public Health reported 1,817 new COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, along with four deaths.

In this regard, the Director-General of Rafik Hariri University Hospital Dr. Firas Abiad, said that Lebanon is sliding into level 4 of the community outbreak.

He explained that the number of new cases announced yesterday is twice the average number of new daily cases announced last week. “This indicated that the delta variant is spreading rapidly. Although this was expected, but yesterday’s number was really shocking,” he said.

Abiad said that this spike in cases will be followed by an increase in the number of cases that will require admission to hospitals. He wondered whether hospitals can absorb the increasing demand for beds?

It is worth noting that hospitals have not yet received their dues for the treatment of Covid-19 patients, during winter.

“This catastrophic situation is expected to worsen,” he stressed. Hospitals, with all the hurdles it is facing will be at the forefront, as it is required to deal with more misery and despair, as a result of the short-sighted decisions.

“Our path to Calvary has become more tough. We ask God for kindness and mercy.”
