Caretaker Prime Minister, Hassan Diab, today received at his Tallet al-Khayat residence, United Nations Under-Secretary General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, accompanied by UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander, Major General Stefano Del Col, UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, Special Assistant to USG Lacroix, Alexis Bertheir, UNIFIL Deputy Head of Mission and Director of Political and Civil Affairs, Jack Christofird, as well as Political Affairs Officer, Sabrina Pfiffner, in the presence of PM Advisor for Diplomatic affairs, Ambassador Gebran Soufan. The interlocutors deliberated on the delegation’s inspection visit to the peacekeeping force operating in southern Lebanon, prior to the renewal of the UNIFIL mandate after the issuance of UNSG periodic report on Resolution 1701. Premier Diab affirmed the Lebanese government’s commitment to this resolution at a time when the Israeli enemy continues to violate the Lebanese airspace and sovereignty, causing great damage to villages within the border area, the latest of which happened on July 22, 2021, in addition to the imminent danger to civil aviation.—PM Press Office
