“Discrimination” did not determine Bitar’s suspension, Zuaiter and Machnouk’s sessions suspended.

The judicial circles at the Palace of Justice in Beirut were surprised, as the President of the Civil Court of Cassation, Judge Naji Eid, and his advisors, Rana Oweidat and Razeen Ghantous, obstained from attending at their offices today, and the failure to decide on the case submitted by Representatives Ali Hassan Khalil and Ghazi Zuaiter, in which they requested the suspension of the judicial investigator in the Beirut Port explosion, Judge Tariq Bitar, which led to the annuling of Zuaiter’s interrogation session, that was scheduled at ten in the morning, as well as the interrogation of Representative Nohad al-Machnouk, which was scheduled for one in the afternoon.
Judge Bitar came to his office at 8 in the morning, and remained awaiting the decision of the Civil Court of Cassation, given that if the court had taken a decision to dismiss the case, he would hold the investigation session scheduled for today, but the judicial investigator left his office in the Palace of Justice at half past one in the afternoon, and of course, he will be absent from his office until the fate of the case for his suspension, by acceptance or rejection, is determined.
This coincided with the presence of a number of Khalil and Zuaiter’s defense attorneys at the Palace of Justice, to await for what would be issued by the Court of Cassation, and whether the court would dismiss Bitar by accepting the case, or rejecting it, and thus give him full power again to complete his investigations and procedure
