EDL workers: Tomorrow’s strike suspended.

Workers and Users of Electricité du Liban’s Syndicate clarified in a statement after its periodic meeting, that “after the Council of Ministers agreed to include independent interests and public institutions in social assistance, and an increase in transportation allowance, and due to its sensitivity to the general conditions that the country and people are going through, the union decided to suspend the strike scheduled for Wednesday 2-2-2022 until Friday 4-2-2022 implicitly, while confirming the demand from the Council of Ministers collectively, to hold the Minister of Energy and Water accountable for where the restoration of the main building of the Electricité du Liban (EDL) occurred as a result of the disastrous explosion on August 4, 2020, while we see him insisting on requesting an advance to finance service provider companies from within the budget, bearing in mind that the Syndicate, in its previous statements, asked the Prime Minister to form a specialized ministerial committee, to review and verify the failures made by the service provider companies in the Electricité du Liban to date.”
The union promised “workers and employees that it is in the process of preparing a special project due to the erosion of salaries as a result of the rise in the dollar and the collapse of the Lebanese pound, to preserve their rights, and it will submit it later to the Foundation’s Board of Directors for study, approval and reporting to His Excellency the Minister of Energy and the Council of Ministers for approval.”
