“Exceptional” decision regarding tourist establishments and pricing in dollars

Ministry of Tourism issued the following circular:

“Depending on the meeting of Minister of Tourism Walid Nassar with the heads of the Tourist Syndicates: President of the Federation of Tourist Syndicates and President of the Syndicate of Hotel Owners Pierre Al-Ashkar, Vice-President of the Federation and President of the Syndicate of Restaurants, Cafes, Nightclubs and Patisserie Tony Ramy, Secretary General of the Federation and President of the Syndicate of Maritime Tourism Establishments Jean Beiruti, President of the Syndicate of Owners Travel and tourism offices Jan Abboud and a representative of the Syndicate of Tourist Guides.

In view of the exceptional circumstances the country is going through, especially in terms of fluctuation in the dollar exchange rate against the Lebanese pound, and in order to enable good monitoring and comparison of prices;

The Ministry of Tourism, “exceptionally and optionally,” allows, during the period from the date of publishing this circular, Thursday, June 2, 2022, until the end of September 2022, implicitly, for all tourist establishments in Lebanon to announce their price lists in US dollars, provided that the final invoice is priced in Lebanese pounds and US dollars.

The Ministry of Tourism also stresses that all tourist establishments adhere to competitive prices that take into account the purchasing power of the customers of these establishments, at the risk of taking legal measures against the violating establishments. This circular shall be renewed where necessary.”
