Fayyad: No raise in electricity tariffs, but rather increase feeding hours

Minister of Energy and Water Walid Fayyad said in a statement after the cabinet session at Baabda Palace, that “the energy sector must enable and boost the economy and that no one should seek financial benefit.”

Fayyad said: “Our goal is to ration the use of fuel, and the surge in fuel prices is for rationalization. I have a vision represented in serving the citizens and empowering the economy, and today we have raised the price of fuel and it has become almost unsubsidized because it was not aimed at helping the citizen, but rather serving other parties.”

He added: “With the lifting of subsidies, we proposed securing a means of transportation for the citizen without squandering, and it is under discussion.”

Fayyad said that with the lifting of subsidies, the government can complete the ration card which should be soon on the cabinet table.”

He said: “We all agree on spending the money on fuel, because it is the cheapest price for electricity production.”

Fayyad added: “We haven’t finished developing the electricity plan yet, and it is expected to secure fuel to provide addition 8 hours of daily feeding within two months with the help of Iraqi fuel.”

He stressed that “there is no increase in the electricity tariff during this period, and the goal is to increase the hours of feeding.”
