Food and medicine are stuck in Beirut Port, exposed to high temperature

Head of Syndicate of Food Importers in Lebanon Hani Bohsali confirmed that there is a new mechanism for the Banque du Liban and the Ministry of Economy regarding subsidized products, of which details are still pending.

Bohsali pointed out, in an interview with “Voice of All Lebanon”, that the subsidized products are being ordered late. Therefore, they are not available in quantities in supermarkets, however, unsubsidized goods are normally reachable.

Bohsali indicated that the presence of goods at the Port is costly and dangerous due to the exposure of the materials to sun. Thus, merchant stores them in the warehouses awaiting for subsidies file’s final decisions. He as well explained that there is a difference between monopoly and waiting for the opening of credits for the goods by the Banque du Liban.

Bohsali confirmed that there are foodstuffs and medicines stuck in the port, due to the delay in approving their requests.
