The French Ambassador to Lebanon, Anne Greu, sent a congratulatory message on the occasion of the New Year, in which she said:
“My dear Lebanese friends, my dear compatriots in Lebanon, throughout this year, I went to meet you all over Lebanon. You conveyed your firm attachment to your homeland. You also shared your pain of seeing him crumble today. You shared with me your concerns about your future and the future of your children and elderly relatives.
At the end of this year, I would like to commend you with one thing, which is the great admiration I have for many of you for your commitment, determination and courage to build a reconciled, peaceful and prosperous Lebanon. Believe me, this will unites you. It makes of you one people, a great people, united in its diversity and united in the face of difficulties.
This vital energy that you enjoy also motivates us to commit to you. Because France has always stood by the Lebanese people and will remain with them.
In 2021, too, we answered the call. We answered the call so that you can continue to send your children to school, so that you can receive high-quality health care, so that you can remain in your homeland, in this land that you love, and live in it with dignity because that is your right. This prompted the President of the French Republic to convene a third conference to help the people of Lebanon last August.
We will be by your side through 2022. This year will be important to you. It will hold parliamentary, presidential and municipal elections. We will particularly ensure that every Lebanese citizen is able to vote within the framework of a fair, free and transparent democratic process.
My dear compatriots, I would like to single out a message for you, for you are the ones whose hearts beat to the beat of this country and the Lebanese. You are the ones who live their hopes and their daily problems alike. The Embassy and Consulate General will continue to accompany you. This is an opportunity for me to express my gratitude for all that you are doing for Lebanon and the Lebanese, in order to keep this unique relationship between France and Lebanon vibrant. With our union and cooperation, each in our own field, we are also helping this country. On the other hand, you, dear compatriots, will also express your opinion on those whom you wish to entrust for the future of our country, France.
My dear Lebanese friends, my dear citizens of Lebanon, I extend to each of you my best wishes for good health and happiness. I wish Lebanon, this brotherly country, unity, peace and prosperity.”
