Hochstein: Lebanon needs to support itself

The US envoy for the demarcation of the maritime border between Lebanon and Israel, Amos Hochstein, confirmed that good progress has been made regarding the electricity crisis and the gas deal with Egypt.

In an interview with “LBCI” about the electricity crisis in Lebanon and the agreement with Egypt, he said: “I think we are making good progress in reaching an arrangement with the World Bank and facilitating the financing of gas purchases,” saying that “within weeks we can do that.”

He stressed that “we must see something successful and pass the necessary reforms and be serious, and then we can work on expanding the work to include the Jordanian electricity deal and perhaps to increase the amount of gas.”

And he considered that “Lebanon should look at the natural resources that it enjoys, such as wind and solar energy, but we have to start somewhere and the international community supports Lebanon, but Lebanon needs to support itself as well.”
