How much the cost of taxi service will reach after lifting fuel subsidies?

The Head of the Land Transport Sector Federations and Unions, Bassam Tlais confirmed that after lifting fuel subsidies the cost of “taxi service” will amount to 25,000 LBP or more, and the country is heading next month towards a new policy and system with regard to fuel.

He said: “Get ready because the market will be liberated and the crisis will end in the stations. However, lifting subsidies will affect all daily life aspects and will exacerbate the social crisis.”

In response to a question about the number of forged public taxi service plates, Tlais said in an interview with “Al-Hurra” channel with Layal Al-Akhtyar: “We have 4,225 official legal vans, but I guarantee that there are more than 18,000 public vans on the streets. This means that those thousands of extra vans are using forged public plates.”

Tlais added that a public driver receives on his phone, for instance, a penalty from Akkar, while he never went to Akkar, only to find out later that someone was using a plate with the same number that was forged and placed on another car.
