In August, consumer prices rose to new highs

“The consumer price index in Lebanon for August 2021 registered an increase by 10.25% compared to July 2021,” according to the Central Statistics Department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. At the governorate level, this statistic was likewise reported as follows:

An increase in Beirut governorate by 7.17%.

An increase in the Mount Lebanon governorate by 9.67%

An increase in the North Governorate by 12.21%

An increase in Bekaa Governorate by 11.78%.

An increase in South Governorate by 9.85%

An increase in Nabatieh governorate by 12.84%.

In addition, the Department stated that “In comparison to August 2020, the consumer price index in Lebanon increased by 137.75 % in August 2021. Consumer price inflation was 99.85 % in the first eight months of the year.”
