In pictures: More than 5 million Captagon pills’ smuggling operation…thwarted.

The General Directorate of Internal Security Forces – Public Relations Division issued the following statement:

“Within the framework of its continuous pursuit of drug smuggling networks ,and the arrest of their members, the specialized departments of the Information Division of the Internal Security Forces are constantly working to intensify their efforts to uncover smuggling operations to and from Lebanese territories, and to identify and arrest those involved.

As a result of the intensive investigations, the Division got confirmed information that an international drug smuggling network was preparing to smuggle a large quantity of drugs packed inside fiberboards to Abidjan, through the Beirut’s port.

As a result of the inquiry follow-up, these specialized units have determined the location of the aforementioned shipment in the town of Ghaziyeh – Sidon, and orders were given to raid the warehouse where the narcotics were hidden, and to arrest all those suspected of being involved in the smuggling operation

On 10-30-2022, and after careful monitoring, the Special Force of the Division carried out a raid on the aforementioned warehouse, and was able to seize the goods inside. Simultaneously, the owner of the warehouse and the drivers of the cars that transported the shipment from Bekaa to Beirut were summoned and brought, in addition to the owner of the shipping company.

By searching the shipment, a quantity of 5,415,000/ Captagon narcotic pills was seized, hidden inside fiber boards.

By interrogating the suspects, the identities of all members of the network involved in the operation were uncovered.

The file and the seizures were deposited by the relevant authority, based on the reference of the competent judiciary, and work is still underway to arrest the network members.”
