The investigation into the Beirut Port explosion file is expected to witness an important shift in terms of defining responsibilities, starting to summon the defendants within two weeks at the latest, and taking the decisions that must be taken against anyone found guilty of negligence or the actions that caused the explosion.
This transformation is the result of the progress achieved by the investigations since judge Bitar received the file four months ago. Sources to “Sawt Beirut International” said that “Judge Bitar has reached very important information related to how nitrates reached Lebanon. The investigations are close to determining the internal responsibilities in this regard as well”. The sources stressed, “there are strong data that came close to identifying the owners of the ammonium nitrate, and whether they were entered into Lebanon on purpose or by coincidence.”
The judicial investigator was not able to hear the testimonies of five witnesses today, because they were unable to reach his office due to the strike. He adjourned their interrogation until next week. On Friday, he will hear other witnesses.
