Is it possible that a series of European sanctions on Lebanese authorities will be imposed soon?

According to recent reports, the first series of European sanctions on Lebanese officials is expected to be issued, causing the current disruption, and these procedures will serve as a warning of sanctions affecting a broader group if the government is not formed.

In the midst of the economic crisis, Lebanon has been without a government since Prime Minister Hassan Diab resigned following the terrible explosion in Beirut’s port on August 4.

In this regard, it’s worth recalling what French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian remarked in July: “The legislative framework will be a tool of pressure on the Lebanese authorities to go forward not just in establishing the government but also in enacting key reforms,” highlighting the importance of achieving political agreement among the twenty-seven member nations in order to build this framework.
