Justice Minister briefs President Aoun on cabinet’s deliberations, developments in judicial situation

President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, received this afternoon at Baabda Palace, Minister of Justice, Judge Henry Khoury, who briefed him on the deliberations of the Council of Ministers in its session this morning at the Grand Serail, devoted to discussing the developments in the judicial situation.

President Aoun expressed his satisfaction with the position issued by the Council of Ministers regarding “the keen concern for the independence of the judiciary and non-interference in judicial affairs, out of respect for the principle of separation of powers, provided that the law takes its course without any discrimination or discretion, and preserves the rights of all, foremost of which being the rights of depositors.”

Aoun also welcomed the cabinet’s commissioning of the Justice Minister to develop a vision to address the judicial situation and the causes of any defect that might occur, in addition to placing no limits on withdrawal ceilings for salaries and pensions domiciled in banks.

The President considered that “accelerating the completion of the draft recovery plan and its related bills, in addition to the parliament’s approval of the ‘Capital Control’ Law, are among the pressing issues that entail completion as soon as possible for the interest of citizens, especially since there is no longer any justification for any delays, in addition to passing the ‘Funds Transferred Abroad’ Law and the implementation of the forensic audit contract.”
