Lebanese army distributes compensation for Beirut explosion victims

The Lebanese army resumed on Tuesday the distribution of compensation for the people who were affected by the large explosion that rocked the Port of Beirut on Aug. 4, the Army Command – Directorate of Orientation said in a statement.

“The amount of 940,000,000 Lebanese pounds was distributed,” the statement said, noting that the number of residential units which benefited from the said compensation reached 166.

Those units are spread across several regions, namely Mar Mikhael, Cornish Al Nahr, Geitaoui, Sassine, Medawar, Rmeil, Roum, Rizk, Adlieh, Tabaris, Bourj Hammoud, Sin El Fil, Bouchrieh, the waterfront of Dora coastline, Al-Khandak Al-Ghamik, Al-Bachoura, Zkak Al Blat, Mussaitbeh, Ras El Nabeh, Al Mazraa and Ain El Mreisseh.

The distribution of aid is set to be resumed on 10/03/2021 in Bouchrieh and Sodeco regions.

The explosion that rocked the Port of Beirut on Aug. 4 is considered to be one of the biggest non-nuclear blasts in history. It added further strains to a country grappling with its worst economic crisis since the 1975-1990 civil war.

The blast killed more than 200 people, injured thousands and devastated several districts in the center of the Lebanese capital.
