Lebanese citizens living in Ukraine to be evacuated

Prime Minister Najib Mikati met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdallah Bou Habib to discuss the condition of Lebanese in Ukraine in light of recent developments.

The meeting was attended by Mahmoud Makiya, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, and Ambassador Boutros Asaker, President Mikati’s diplomatic counselor.

After the meeting, Minister Bou Habib announced, “It was decided to assign the Higher Relief Commission to evacuate Lebanese nationals residing in Ukraine and who have sought refuge in Poland and Romania, by air at a date to be determined later, according to circumstances and data announced at the time, in consultation with the Lebanese embassies in Ukraine, Poland and Romania.”

“It was discovered that there are no secure exit routes from Ukraine, thus we encourage the Lebanese who are already there to stay in safe areas until things settle up. Lebanese who choose to cross the border on their own will are advised to exercise extreme caution and care in order to ensure their safety,” he concluded.
