“Lebanese people’s genuine aspirations for justice must be respected,” says French president Macron

French President Emmanuel Macron tweeted today on the anniversary of the tragic Beirut Port blast, saying: “Lebanon is witnessing a national day of mourning today, two years after the explosion of the Port of Beirut. I remember with great sadness the astonishment that struck me in August 2020 when I learned of this tragedy.”

He added: “The dignity and courage of the Lebanese people, even though their hearts were filled with pain, prompted me to travel to them two days later to tour the ruined streets of Gemmayzeh with them…Justice must be served!”

“This tragedy revealed the tragic, multi-faceted crisis that Lebanon is experiencing. The legitimate aspirations of the Lebanese people for justice and reforms must be met,” the French President affirmed.
