The Director of Rafik Hariri University Hospital (RHUH), Dr. Firas Abiad
Minister of Public Health Firas Abiad met with officials from the World Health Organization’s Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean in Cairo, including Regional Director Dr. Ahmed Al-Mandhari, his deputy Dr. Rana Hajji, and the organization’s representative in Lebanon, Dr. Iman Al-Shankiti.
The study focused on the options open to Lebanon in light of the current crisis in order to build a fair and affordable health system. Dr. Walid Khoury, the Presidential Adviser for Health Affairs, and Dr. Walid Ammar, the former Director General of the Ministry of Public Health, accompanied Minister Abiad on the visit.
The conversations were “extensive and useful,” Abiad said in a post to him on his Twitter account, “particularly as they confirmed the continuation of the robust assistance that Lebanon needs at this stage.”
“The message was clear: Lebanon is not abandoned,” stated the Minister of Public Health, thanking WHO personnel for their warm welcome and excellent planning for the visit.
