Lebanon is threatened with food insecurity

Agriculture Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan stressed the need to “build food systems that are more resilient, inclusive and sustainable.”

In a speech at the Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Istanbul, Hajj Hassan pointed out that “from the repercussions of the Corona virus and the economic crisis, more than 50% of the population of Lebanon is at risk of not reaching basic food needs,” saying: “The FAO has classified Lebanon Among the 20 countries threatened by global food insecurity.

He called for the necessity of “making the agricultural and food system a major driver to ensure the resilience of the Lebanese economy and transform it into a productive economy.”
