Letter from Banks Association to Salameh: protect depositors’ money

Head of the Beirut Bar Association, Melhem Khalaf, sent  lately a letter to the Association of Banks, in which it demanded that it “takes all legal and judicial measures with banks in Lebanon and at the correspondent banks of the Banque du Liban, to prevent the latter from disposing of what is left of the depositors’ money. ” According to what was stated in the Khalaf statement

Today, the Association of Banks raised a letter to the Governor of the Banque du Liban, Riad Salameh, signed in the name of the chairman of the board of directors of the association, Dr. Salim Sfeir, in which it expresses its “strong ” support for Salameh’s position not to prejudice the mandatory reserve for any reason, in order to protect depositors’ money, “as this reserve cannot be transferred for any reason  , to support imported products .

As the association hoped in its letter for “Continuing vigorous cooperation with the Banque du Liban in order to protect depositors’ funds,” it hoped that Governor Salameh will declare this stance officially and decisively at the earliest possible opportunity.”
