LF’s Geagea says Syrian refugees’ crisis has become sovereign existential concern

The head of the “Lebanese Forces” party, Samir Geagea, met in Maarab with the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations in Lebanon, Imran Riza, accompanied by political advisor Pierre Daher, in the presence of the head of the Foreign Relations Agency, former minister Richard Kouyoumjian, and member of the Central Council, Mark Saad.

Following the meeting tackling developments at both Lebanese and regional levels, Geagea stressed that Lebanon “has endured a lot in order to rescue and shelter the Syrian refugees, but the situation today is no longer tolerable. We must work together urgently, to begin the process of their return to their home country.”

“According to an agreement concluded with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2003, Lebanon is a country of transit and not a country of refuge,” Leader Geagea said, urging the international community to “consider recent regional developments in order to extricate Lebanon from this escalating crisis, given that the issue has gone beyond the economic or humanitarian concept.”
