The Minister of Interior and Municipalities in the caretaker government, Bassam Mawlawi, affirmed, “The municipal and mayor’s elections will take place on time abiding by the commitment to apply the law,” adding in a press conference: “We are ready to hold the municipal and mayor’s elections, and we will issue the necessary circulars for the date of starting the nominations, and we call on the government to secure the necessary funds and complete the administrative preparations.”
He pointed out that “the cost of the elections constitutes a small percentage of the cost of electricity and subsidies, and there are no serious reasons to evade it,” adding, “Let us put this entitlement in its developmental and legal place and keep it away from political disputes.”
Mawlawi announced that “the election dates are May 7 in the north, May 14 in Mount Lebanon, May 21 in Beirut and the Bekaa Valley, and May 28 in the south.”
