Meeting at Palace of Justice to reject political campaigns and attacks against Bitar

Number of Lebanese judges, including members of the Judges Club, called for a meeting today, September 24, in the Court of Cassation hall at the Palace of Justice in Beirut, to reject the malicious media, political and sectarian attacks and campaigns, against the judicial investigator in the port explosion case, Judge Tariq Bitar, up tO the extent of threatening him in an unprecedented and dangerous incident, that attacks the judiciary and the rule of law, according to a statement issued by them.

The attendees considered that “attempts to convey political and non-political messages to any judge and by any means, are deplorable and reprehensible in the strongest terms, and cannot be tolerated and totally rejected.

The judges stressed “the need to preserve the sovereignty of the state of law, submit to its provisions, respect the principles of its procedures. And let it be known that the free judges are not left to their fate, and that any exposure to any judge is an exposure to the entire constitutional authority.

The judges demanded the Discriminatory Public Prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oweidat, to preserve the judiciary’s victory and its prestige by initiating swift and serious prosecution.
