Mikati meets delegation of Lebanese coalition for good governance in extractive industries

Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, on Friday welcomed at the Grand Serail a delegation representing the Lebanese coalition for good governance in extractive industries headed by general coordinator, Maroun El-Khouli.

In the wake of the meeting, Al-Khouli said in a statement that talks with the premiere mainly touched on several basic and pivotal issues in the gas, oil, and exploration sector.

“We’ve discussed the necessity of approving implementation decrees that must be accompanied by a law to promote transparency and good governance in the management of the sector and its revenues,” El-Khouli added.

“The meeting also stressed the paramount importance of completing the process of joining the EITI Transparency Initiative for Strategic Industries; we’ve offered all the possible cooperation and facilitation as representatives of the civil society in this initiative,” El-Khouli explained.

“Our meeting with His Excellency is a foundational step for the civil society partnership in future decisions that involve the gas and oil sector in Lebanon,” he concluded.
